The Humanities Faculty plays an increasingly valuable role in the multi cultural and multi faith society of today. We believe that the various subjects which make up the Humanities Department: Geography, History, Religious Education, PSHE (personal, social and Health Education) and Citizenship, help students to prepare for the world both in and outside of school and education.
Lessons are carried out in the Faculty, emphasising the use of a variety of teaching strategies which allow the students to participate fully whilst enjoying the learning experience.
Good use is made of modern state-of-the-art ICT resources, many involving student interaction.
Further opportunities are addressed in eg Geography through after school and lunchtime clubs, where students can extend themselves further on a more informal basis.
Cross curricular links are established wherever possible throughout the humanities subject areas to widen student knowledge and understanding of how aspects of the subjects relate and fit in to the ‘bigger picture’.
Opportunities for trips and openings outside of the classroom are constantly being developed and encouraged for added value to the subjects featured.
Achievements are recognised throughout the teaching both during lesson time, through marking of work and through examination and testing opportunities and for which a variety of awards are constantly available.
