Drama Department

Mrs Konarska runs the Drama Department at St Hugh’s. All pupils in KS3 have Drama every week and enjoy topics such as 'Darkwood Manor', 'A night in the Waxworks' and 'Lenny’s Red Letter Day'. The students who study Btec Performing Arts achieve excellent results.

The school has a superb Drama Studio which is well equipped with Stage lights, an audio system, staging, curtains and plenty of costumes and props. The recent acquisitions of a projector and large screen have enhanced teaching and inspired learning.

Every year our senior students put on a Pantomime which is performed to our feeder schools. Recently we have performed Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

St Hugh’s is always pleased to be involved in the Drama at the Church School’s Festival in Lincoln Cathedral.

We have a dance specialist who visits the school every week to work with a group of year 8 girls towards a dance qualification.

Miles Foster & Ingrid Statman from the Peregrine Theatre group visited us last year to deliver an excellent acting workshop to the Btec students.

New for 2009, a school production of the popular musical ‘Bugsy Malone’. Students are working on all aspects of this production: designing, making and painting scenery; acting, singing, dancing; designing and making costumes and numerous other activities.

Drama club runs every Monday lunchtime for students in years 7-9. There are opportunities to play drama games and devise short plays. Drama club members have auditioned for supporting roles in the school production ‘Bugsy Malone’.

We are looking forward to visiting Loughborough University to explore acting skills in Drama masterclasses.

Dance this year has had a really positive start.  Yr 5 at Spitalgate had a lot of fun learning a cowboy routine from Miss Allery and Mr Shaw.  This followed with the students making up their own routines and then learning some cheerleading moves. Here at St.Hugh’s we’ve not only had a Cheerleading instructor into school who has taught the girls stunts and routines using the new pom poms, but we’ve managed to encourage a group of year 10 girls to organize and run a dance forum.  They chose their own music and choreographed a dance, teaching it to a group of year 7 students.  This was then performed in assembly to students from the Federation. We are looking forward to a lot more dance throughout the year.
